Can you walk on a fibreglass roof?
Yes. GRP cures to a rigid surface that takes regular foot traffic, which makes it the domestic system specified for balconies, terraces and walkways. A textured non-slip flow coat is applied where the surface is used regularly.

What is a GRP fibreglass roof?
GRP is polyester resin reinforced with glass matting, laid wet over a board deck and cured in place into one rigid laminate. Edge trims are bonded into the laminate, so the finished roof has no joints and no separate flashings.
GRP has a service life of 25 to 40 years where the deck is stable.

Why does the deck matter so much?
A cured laminate is rigid and does not stretch. A deck that flexes underfoot transfers that movement straight into the laminate, which cracks. Screwed-down board on adequately sized joists is part of the specification, not preparation for it.
GRP means cracking at deck movement, and at junctions with differently-moving structures. A topcoat is the pigmented flow coat providing UV protection and the finished colour. Ground back and relaminated, restoring continuity rather than patching over.
Does fibreglass crack?
Yes, where the deck moves or where the laminate meets a structure moving independently. It does not crack from age or ultraviolet exposure. Cracking is a movement problem, and it is designed out at the deck and the junctions.

When can fibreglass not be installed?
GRP cannot be laid onto a damp deck or in low temperatures, because the resin will not cure properly. Work is scheduled to dry settled conditions, and a roof laid outside those limits fails months later rather than immediately.
How fibreglass is repaired
GRP's performance is decided by deck stiffness more than by resin quality; a bouncy deck fails a good laminate. Temperature and moisture limits mean a GRP roof laid in the wrong conditions never cures properly, and the fault appears months later.

Grinding back and relaminating rebuilds one continuous surface, unlike patching a sheet system. Integral GRP trims are bonded in rather than mechanically fixed over, which removes the commonest flat-roof edge failure.
